When I arrived at the area, I was fascinated by how big it was and influenced by the number of people that attended the conference. I didn’t expect hundreds of people in a single building. People were talking and having fun with their friends, but I was somewhat lonely sitting by myself. Thankfully the person sitting next to me was a friendly person where I got along with him. In the beginning of the conference, the activity we had to do, the DNA extraction from our spit, was very interesting and fun to do. The desk had descriptions of what to do and prepare for the conference and I liked it overall in the beginning. 

Many people were late to the conference and had to delay the time schedule contemporarily. However, I was surprised by the visit of a Harvard professor. We all know that Harvard is very big and well-known to the world. And asking for one of the professors in Harvard is really hard. It was fun listening to the professor like how he started to do his career and what he was doing throughout his life. He also told us what he wants to achieve in the future. Sadly, I couldn’t hear the professor’s voice clearly and some of his words were muffled. However, I am very honored to meet a Harvard professor. After the Harvard professor finished his presentation the next presenter came in, who was a Korean professor. He had a creative presentation and exciting activities we had to do. I liked the title of his presentation, which was related to the Squid Game. His speech was filled with his life story and his career. It gave me great inspiration to focus on biology. 

After eating lunch we headed to Inha University for a biotech company. I was excited to encounter something that I have never seen. The visit to Bio FD&C was an intriguing moment. They used plant cells to create, for now, perfumes. They said they are also conserving endangered plants from different places in Korea and I thought that it was an innovative idea. The company’s way of utilizing plant cells to improve on their weakness in their current technology was a very fascinating plan. I had fun observing machines that Bio FD&C had made for creating cells. 

The last place we visited had many activities to do. We used plant cells to create the University’s mascot. We also used paper that changes color depending on the substance that it is combined with. There were many lectures, too. Some of them I felt a little bit sleepy, but thankfully I endured the sleepiness and listened through the whole presentation of a professor. 

The conference overall gave me great experience of the superficial part of biotechnology. It was fun doing activities and listening to the perspectives of different biotechnology related people: students and professors. If I have the chance to attend the conference one more time, I would love to go again and have more knowledge about different group’s biotechnology. Before coming to this conference, I thought that biology didn’t have great variety. It is maybe because I haven’t researched anything about different sects in biology. However, by going to the conference I realized that there are many more different columns in the field of biology. And the plastic made out of plant cells blew my mind where it was much better than the original plastic on conserving the environment. I learned that there are many potentials in this world that can conserve the world’s environment and bring the state back to its original state.
